EL Founder's Notes Compilations
Grid Integration entails developing efficient ways for the delivery of variable renewable energy to the grid. Ultimately, grid stability remains paramount as electricity generation must track the aggregated load to maintain a stable grid. For grid stability to be maintained, frequency comes into play as a key parameter. Across different jurisdictions, there is usually a target frequency and permitted frequency range to allow power generation equal power consumption in real time. With variable renewable energy, forecast errors have to be taken into consideration, hence, additional distribution functions may be required such as ‘ramp adjustments’.
